Q & A with Elayne

Why play violin? I started with piano at age 5, since my Mom was a piano teacher in Toronto, then had the opportunity at 11
to start violin with the first Suzuki school in Toronto. Loved violin,
played both instruments through high school, then chose to focus on violin in university.

Favourite indulgences? Reading, especially in the hammock or on the couch with my 2 cats (Minuet and Mewsette!) or
figure skating.

Greatest musical influence? My Mom, Itzhak Perlman, many Suzuki colleagues

Best gig you've ever performed at? Going on tour to China with the OFSO, visiting 7 cities and playing 6 concerts

Favourite food? Vegetarian items!

Dream Vacation? “fly and flop” vacations, where you go somewhere beautiful and do nothing but relax by a pool/ocean.

Outside interests? Spinning, dyeing, and candlemaking which I became fascinated with through my experiences at
Fanshawe Pioneer Village in London- I love “living history”.

Favourite Works? Dvorak 8th Symphony, Bartok Concerto for Orchestra

What's a fact no one would know about you? I visited St Petersburg, Moscow and Vladivostok before bringing my
Russian husband Alex to Canada!
